BACOLOD City Councilor Renecito Novero urged the City Health Office (CHO) through Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s office to make preventive purchases of drugs deemed effective against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Novero said on Wednesday, October 20, that drugs like Remdesivir and Tocilizumab would be helpful in the healing and recovery of patients severely infected with Covid-19.
He said these drugs would be prescribed in some hospitals.
Novero added that the supply of Remdesivir and Tocilizumab is very scarce and often unavailable in urgent need.
The prices for these are also too high and often unaffordable for low-income patients, the adviser said.
“The city government should buy the emergency drugs for Covid so that those who are not able to buy these drugs, the city can give them to them at a reasonable price, then the money will be used again to buy drugs, “he said. .
Novero noted that initially he was told that only hospitals in the city could purchase this type of medicine.
Novero said the price of Remdesivir last year was between 9,000 and 13,000 pesos per vial while the price of tocilizumab also reached 80,000 to 100,000 pesos per vial.
A resolution on this subject will be adopted by the city council next week, he added.
