Customs destroy 48 containers of banned pharmaceutical drugs in Lagos – Concise News


In a big move to rid society of illicit and prohibited drugs, the Nigeria Customs Service has destroyed 48 containers of pharmaceutical drugs seized in Lagos.

The destruction of the condemned drugs was carried out at the LAWMA Waste Destruction Site in Epe, Lagos State, with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the Agency National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The main delegations that led the destruction mission were Assistant Comptroller General, Law Enforcement, Inspection and Investigation, Usman Darkingari, Apapa Area Comptroller, Malanta Yusuf and Service Mouth, Assistant Comptroller of customs Timi Bomodi.

Speaking to NewsMen at the destruction site, the CAG attributed the prevailing vices like kidnapping, banditry and all forms of insecurity in the country to the consumption of these illicit pharmaceuticals.

“This type of drugs like tramadol fuels banditry, armed robbery, terrorism and insecurity in the country, which is why the federal government, through customs and NAFDAC, regularly eliminates these drugs traffic,” he said.

According to him, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Colonel Hameed Ali (rtd) has mandated the destruction of illicit drugs in synergy with the sister agencies concerned, he also noted that a total number of forty eight (48 ) containers of the prohibited drugs will be wiped out within a few days.
