Eight people arrested with illegal drugs in Chitwan

CHITWAN: Eight people were arrested with illegal pharmaceutical drugs worth Rs 2.1 million in Madi-9 Municipality of Chitwan District.

Those arrested were identified as Raj Kumar Mahato (28) from Kalika-4 Municipality, Hari Sharan Chaudhary (31) from Kalika-3, Balkrishna Mahato (22) and Milan Mahato, both from Madi-3, Suraj Gautam (25) from Makawanpurgadhi Rural Municipality-8, Prakash Dahal (23) from Makawanpurgadhi-3, Ujjwal Pokhrel (25) from Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-5 and Bipin Sapkota (23) from Hetauda-23.

According to police, those arrested were smuggling illegal pharmaceutical drugs from Thori from Parsa to Madi in a vehicle (Na 4 Kha 4425) when they were arrested in Someshwar with the drugs on Tuesday.

The Chitwan District Police Bureau released the arrested people, along with the drugs seized, today at a press meeting in the district.

The confiscated drugs are worth around 2.1 million rupees, said Police Superintendent (SP) Nantiraj Gurung, head of the Chitwan District Police Office.

Meanwhile, Chitwan police found illegal pharmaceutical drugs worth around 0.95 million rupees hidden in bushes on the banks of the Bagahi River in Madi, SP Gurung added.

The drugs seized – used in the treatment of rheumatism, calcium deficiency and stomach-related conditions and not authorized by the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) – may have been smuggled for networking purposes , according to the alleged police.

Those arrested and drugs seized will be turned over to the DDA for further investigation and action, SP Gurung informed.
